Infinity Home Insurance Review

Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, Infinity Insurance was a national provider of car insurance. When it was founded in 1955, it was known as Dixie Insurance in Aniston, Alabama. It expanded quickly in the South and was eventually known as Infinity.

Company Overview

The company was acquired by Pennsylvania Company in 1991, which is American Premier Underwriters’ sister company. Pennsylvania company then merged with American Financial Corporation to build the American Financial Group. However, American Financial Group sold off all their stock to the new Infinity Insurance, making Infinity independent again.

According to Infinity’s website, they have built a reputation as the go-to company for drivers and is one of the largest non-standard insurers in the United States. They are known for writing non-standard policies but they also write standard policies for home insurance, life insurance, auto insurance, and more.

It is ranked as the 21st largest auto insurance company in the country and in terms of overall market share, its rank is close to National General and Amica as of 2014, according to Insure.com. Other than that, they partner with a list of non-affiliated companies to provide insurance products that they don’t underwrite.

They have built a reputation as the top insurer among Hispanic people in the United States, specifically in California, and until today, they are still looking for ways to increase their presence in that target market.

Home Insurance Products

Infinity is popular for providing auto insurance but they also write a variety of other insurance products in the personal lines category. They offer a wide range of home insurance products, however, if you look into their website, the information about each type of home insurance product is insufficient. Here are the following types:

  • Standard Homeowners Insurance – Covers personal property, liability, and the home itself.
  • Renters InsuranceCovers personal property of tenants that don’t need any coverage for the property structure.
  • Mobile Home Insurance – Provides assistance for the specific needs of mobile homes as they are different from other types of homes.
  • Condo InsuranceCovers the specific needs of condominium owners, including fixtures and other parts of the condo that fall under the owner’s responsibility.

Home insurance with Infinity is not underwritten by them, specifically the homeowners and renters insurance. These are underwritten through non-affiliated companies, however, the company that will underwrite your homeowners and renters insurance isn’t provided in their website.

They also write personal umbrella insurance and flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program.

Home Insurance Discounts

Discounts for home insurance aren’t stated on their website but here are some of the most common discounts that you can have when you purchase a home insurance policy.

  • New Home Discounts
  • Burglar and Security Alarm Discount
  • New Roof or Hail-Resistant Roof Discount
  • Fire and Smoke Alarm Discount
  • Auto and Home Bundle Discount

Claims Process and Customer Service

Today, mobile and online claims reporting are becoming expected options when it comes to home insurance claims. Unfortunately, Infinity doesn’t offer that convenience. They only have one option for filing a claim and that is to call their toll free number. However, you can look at the update of your claims status and past claims by logging into their system.

There are many negative reviews about their claims handling. Some Infinity policyholders say that their claims were denied, delayed, or the payout they received were smaller than what they have expected.

We all know that upset customers post reviews more often than satisfied ones but Infinity has received much negative feedback about their customer service. If you try to look at Trustpilot, one of the most popular customer review sites online, there are complaints about long waiting time over the phone, difficulty in communicating with the company through any of its support media, and trouble connecting with the claims adjuster

Compared to other big-name companies, such as Progressive, Allstate, and State Farm, Infinity has a bigger volume of customer complaints. Choosing a highly-rated company is recommended because it can offer you better peace of mind about your coverage and during the claims process, so choose wisely.

Home Insurance Rates

Infinity provides online quoting and their rates are competitive. However, you can expect to pay higher rates, especially if you choose a standard insurance policy. That’s why policyholders are likely to find better coverage, perks, and better rates elsewhere.

The company doesn’t offer a lot of information on the discounts they offer for home insurance. Since home insurance is written through non-affiliated companies, it’s likely that they don’t offer an auto and home bundle discount.

Customer Reviews and Customer Satisfaction Ratings

Infinity is not included in the 2018 U.S. Home Study of J.D. Power. This study is conducted each year to provide information to policyholders on which companies all over the United States has the highest overall customer satisfaction ratings. They are examining five factors when measuring customer satisfaction: price, billing process, policy information, interaction, and policy offerings. They based their response from 14,222 homeowners across the country via online interviews. State Farm, Nationwide, and Amica are some of the home insurance companies included in the said study.

There are only 4 customer reviews in Clearsurance about Infinity’s home insurance services and all are positive. Customers say that the rates are affordable and that the staff is helpful and friendly. However, these reviews aren’t enough to prove how reliable Infinity is. What you should do is to research for more information on customer reviews online to know if this company is really right for you.

Financial Strength

When it comes to their financial strength, A.M. Best has affirmed the financial strength rating of A or Excellent for Infinity Insurance, which means the company has the ability to pay for their policyholders’ filed claims even when multiple claims are filed each day.

Infinity was given an A or Strong Financial Strength Rating (FSR) from Standard & Poor’s (S&P). FSR looks at the companies financial security in regards to its ability to pay out policies and fulfill contracts in line with the companies terms.

Moody’s rates Infinity’s financial strength as A2 or Excellent. Moody’s FSRs looks to shed light on the companies ability to pay claims and fulfill their obligations on time.
